Yeah, the rubber grip proved to be a weak link. It gave the hand TOO
much grip on the camera and the adhesive wasn't up to the task. The
rubber was also the right type of rubber for wet weather handling.

The E-1 is about the only camera I've ever used that allows for pretty
much complete operation while wearing gloves. Not just those thin
liner gloves either, but substantial winter gloves.

Oh, and the one item that the E-1 is also known for is the
indestructible shutter. I'm told by one of my trustworthy sources that
the E-1 has the most reliable and long-lasting shutter of all of the
Olympus digital cameras to date. Even the latest/greatest OMD will
have as many infant-mortality failures in any one batch than the E-1
did in total. I've only known of two failures. The E-3 had a huge
number of failures, only exceeded by the E-30.

Heavy? I suppose that's all relative. The E-1 is quite light compared
to the E-3. And without the left shoulder, the CG is closer to the
right hand. It balances very well and is a camera you just WANT to
hold. And you have to admit that the curves are rather sexy. ;)
