It would be doubtful if we ever saw an entirely flat lens for our
cameras, but what this does do is provide for industrial applications,
such as photonics for telecommunications. It would be MUCH better to
use something like this in dispersion compensation than our current
technology.

Another application would be as coatings for real lenses that would be
another way of addressing dispersion as well as aspherical elements.
