We used to do the same thing in my home as a child in Chicago. The
barbecue would be fired up in our tiny, concrete backyard and we 'd be
sitting in lawn chairs in the garage with the door open, out of the sun
listening to an old tube AM radio.

Late summer afternoons in southeast Florida produce some amazing
thunderstorms and lighting displays. We used to take it all in by
sitting in lawn chairs inside the open garage. Probably not the
safest thing to do but it sure was enjoyable to watch (and hear).

Apparently sitting just inside the entrance to one's garage is a global
thing, assuming garages, of course. It is very popular here in Maine
(not
now). A family down the road with a huge garage in which they winter

lobster boat, have garage-dedicated recliners. I see your fellow goes
for
the minimalist approach.
