OUCH! Sometimes the obvious just slaps you along side your head.
My camera was telling me the door was open because THE DOOR WAS OPEN!
After finding the switch and testing - with a small stick into its recessed
location - to determine it was working, I realized the plastic door itself
was slightly warped and not closing perfectly.
Right now the camera has a small shim at the hinge area and a woodworking
clamp   hopefully easing/training the door back into alignment.
Will let y'all know if it works.
