The >50mm focal length doesn't deter me. It's just that I can already get to 300mm f/6.7 with a native lens. 500mm f/10 with a kilogram of 85-250/5 and converter doesn't sound exciting.

"Designed to work with a 50mm lens", well maybe you can think of it thus
way. At one extreme it is a 2x teleconverter on a 25mm extension tube on
the camra. At the other extreme it's the same tube on the teleconverter
mounted on the camera (the other way round). So I don't think the "Designed
to work with a 50mm lens" bit should deter you from trying!

I tend to forget that I have a Vivitar 2X macro-focusing teleconverter in
OM mount and, of course, an OM to m.4/3 adapter. The Vivitar is designed
to be used with a 50mm lens. I wonder how it might work with something
longer. Ummm... I just imagined the Zuiko 85-250 hanging on the end of the
converter attached to the E-M1... doesn't sound very exciting that way. :-)

My $.02 on extension tubes and telephoto zooms: My butterfly (and many
other small guys) rig of choice is an OM4T, 65-116 OM auto extension tube,
and Tammy 60-300 lens. This combo works beautifully. Lotsa working
distance available, and focusing is a snap by simply using the zoom. Film
lives on.
