Details and misinformation are still getting sorted out. The initial
storyline is that the flight crew initiated a go around, but failed to
gain altitude and landed on partially retracted landing gear. Most
airlines have the policy that you don't change configurations until
positive rate of climb has been achieved and things have stabilized
into a standard climb-out. Dubai gets some weird localized weather and
it's possible they encountered wind-sheer, even though the wind
conditions weren't that bad at the time.

One fire-fighter died. But everybody did get off the plane in
relatively one piece.
Fortunately, the plane came to a stop next to the runway and didn't
encounter any berms or ditches.
