Weeelll, I do mess with them. :-) These were actually pretty easy, as the mountains are tall and we were flying relatively low. There were some almost "I can touch them" moments.

Lower topography from 40,000± ft. is more difficult. The long distance through air reduces contrast a lot and makes WB very blue. I think the windows of the big jets reduce resolution more, too.

Yes, it was great fun flying over them. Very rugged country. Peaks mostly 6-8,000 ft. Mt. Baker is the high point at almost 11,000.

I gave up backpacking into places high and rugged quite some time ago. :-) 12,000 ft. passes and camping at 10,000 were fun (well . . .) when I was young.
