Mike,

My son identified my problem. It was a McAfee Anti-Spam Extension that they just added to Thunderbird, dated today. We disabled it, and things are back to normal. If you don't use McAfee, then forget this note.

Mike, your note was a reminder that I had not updated Win 7 for a couple of weeks, so I set about to correct that. Alas, when I got finished, my installation of Thunderbird was corrupted and would not run. I can't really say there was a connection. My Systems Manager (retired) son spent over 2 hours on the phone with me, and we got it to run a few times, but not consistently. I'm on Webmail for now.

Be careful out there!

I only update my laptop quarterly and always with trepidation as usually have to reinstall citrix client and often the monitor calibration software. I did so just before replaced HD with SSD but no updates since. This time it seems to hang forever. i have read there was some bug in the late spring and one might just need to wait --even over 8 hours??!!! I would like the security updates but this seems a bit nuts. I was hesitant to follow this procedure:

Waiting for Godot or perhaps just waiting, Mike
