When you wind any SLR the film transport locks as soon as you've
completely wound the film. What releases the lock is *successfully*
firing the shutter. When the 2nd shutter curtain completes its travel
it releases the transport lock. If the film transport is locked it's
probably because the shutter hasn't fired or completely finished its
second curtain travel.
I'd try removing the batteries and replacing them with new ones and see
if the shutter will complete whatever it didn't do. If that doesn't
help there's probably some latch that's stuck.
