Great poses!

I agree, Wayne. Yes, the processing was the same except for sensor

To me, in this case, the E-1 wins, hands down. That's what AG has been preaching. When used where it can handle the job, its colors are superb.

I find this an uneven comparison. The E-1 shot is better focused and properly exposed. The XE-1 is soft, which does affect subtle color variations, and seriously overexposed.

And the clipping of the Red channel is the real problem.

Take a color I just picked off the wing of the E-1 image, R=235, G=194, B=154. Now, bash it up against the end of the histogram. Now we have maybe R=255, G=234, B=194. That is a very different color! Pull the top down and end up with R=215, G=194, B=154. Correct brightness has been recovered, green and blue channels are where they should be - but the combination gives a very different color!!!

I tried this a bit in PS. I can restore a lot of the tonal detail in the bright areas. But all the slightly orangish/light rust areas in the E-1 image, having lost much of the red component, have moved more to yellow.

Thus, not apples to oranges, but oranges to lemons? I hope this explains why these two particular images are meaningless in comparing the colors of the two camera bodies.

AG has gone on and on for years about the magic E-1 colors. But the only true, comparable comparison, that looked significantly different to me, that I can recall, is of images of a deep purple African Violet. The E-1 definitely beat out whatever CMOS sensor it was compared to.

Then again, nowadays, with that static subject, I'd put an E-M5 II in HR mode up against the E-1. HR Mode, by exposing each pixel location with sensels of all colors, should better the E-1.

Rumors say that 9/19 will bring an E-M1 II with hand held speed HR Mode. :-)
