Despite your complaints about difficulty focusing it seems that you nailed it in this one.

Your comment about difficulty in full sunlight causes me to wonder if you're using the EVF vs the display screen.

I managed to find all the bits
and take this photo, Apricot flower with manual lens Vivitar 55/2.8
@f/16. Pretty close. Not at all easy to tell if it is in focus with the
M5; at least not in full sunlight.

The E-M5 has a magnify function to assist with manual focus. I always
had it assigned to Fn2, next to the shutter button.

There is also a trick to add a form of focus peaking to the E-M5. Lots
of different descriptions of the same thing.

I used it, and it does work, but not as well as purpose designed peaking
on later OM-D bodies and many other cameras.
