Thanks, Rick. We have several varieties of red wasps, most with black wings, some with a part of the body black, some all red like this one. I recall them as a kid in Mississippi, so maybe its a mid-south thing. The sting hurts.......... :-(

I spotted a Red Wasp, checking out some berries on the fence.  I snapped
the business end of the wasp at a distance of 20 inches, then got away from
him.
