Timing chains, usually duplex in higher output engines, are not immune to either stretching or breaking. Stretching is OK, as long as the tensioner has enough movement to compensate. If not, the chain slaps around, grinding away anything it touches. I would assume the shorter the chain, the easier it is for the tensioner to do its job. That being said, the chain on a single/twin OHC V8 (don't know what you have in your Lexus) can be surprisingly long. Older MB V8s (e.g. in 560 SLs) have duplex chains measured in feet that assuredly do stretch. Recommended to change them at or before 100 000 miles - for obvious reasons (especially in the case of zero-clearance engines).

As I understand it, at least you don't have to worry about a timing
belt.  I suspect yours has a chain.

I've got a more unique situation with my 2007 Volvo V70T. Shortly after
buying it, a combination of advancing age and health concerns curtailed
our traveling.  It turned over *8000* miles last week.  So, on my next
dealer visit, some time next year, I'm faced with age-related items.
I've got to replace the original tires, tire-pressure sensors, etc,
along with the usual once a year oil change and servicing.  The sensors
are powered by batteries inside each tire, with a life expectancy of 10
years.  I expect that my timing belt should also be changed after the
recommended 10 year life.

Alas, such is the care and feeding of our mechanical pets............
