capital of Friesland. The illumiated churchtower in some is definitely not
straight (in fact it started sagging when it was only 10 meters/ 30 ft and
still under construction...).
We visited an exposition of paintings of Alma Tadema
<https://www.friesmuseum.nl/en/see-and-do/exhibitions/alma-tadema/>, who
from the readings was actually more famous in England then in the
Netherlands. It will come to London as well, worth a visit in my opinion.
Interesting fact was the claim that most of our 21th century image of how
the Greek and Romans lived was derived from his paintings, as the Hollywood
directors were instructed to study his paintings which they then recreated
at their sets. This was illustrated by showing pieces of movie alongside
the paintings, and indeed the resemblance was remarkable. The painter
prepaired his work carefully, for instance by collecting original
timepieces at auctions, some of which were also displayed.
