Chris, I would NEVER try to resurrect a failed drive. What you can do is 
to strip the data off of it. Use TestDisk, free download @ 
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk
This will will likely contain your Win7 key along with 99% of you data. 
The important part will be the OEM drivers for the laptop. There may be 
a recovery partition.

FWIW I pay $59/mo + tax for all phone and internet thru 19th Century 
Link (monopoly). Dial-up is _not_ cheaper than dsl with this package 
though not much faster :(.
