When making the below shots, I measured the distance from focal plane marked on the camera to the point I carefully manually focused on. Just a rough measurement, but I think accurate within a mm or so, two at most - 155 mm

Then I checked the EXIF - 180 mm.

I have no information why the difference. Could be the accuracy is "x% ±30 mm", which is quite OK, except at really short distances. Or the lens may report that it has hit closest focus, and the camera assumes that is the published 180 mm, as opposed to what this particular lens is doing.

Just a reminder that not all is as reported in this wonderful digital world.
Keep your wits about you. :-)

As would I. But I figure it helps to know the range of options.

Personally, I don't think anything particularly special is needed for the kind of shot that started this thread, something relatively small close and really big stuff in the far distance, both in focus. I've done a few test shots from our porch into the rainy world. A stack that has everything in focus from about 6" to infinity with the Panny 14/2.5 lens is technically very easy to shoot with the Focus Stacking ability of the E-M5 II.

There are stacking problems, but they aren't insurmountable, and would be the same with a stack created with a $2,500+ Cambo set-up plus some sort of A7.
