I wasn't going to chime in on this subject,
But a commercial for AARP's Medicare suplimentary insurance prompts me to
offer a different strategy.

With 86 coming up in couple of months,
I've been enjoying Medicare for what seems like forever. We opted not to
purchase the suplimentary policies.

No problems until two years ago when, first. I had a stroke - while
speeding down Route 4. Then, several months later, Judi fell and fractured
her spline.

Well, I came out of Baltimore's Medstar Hospital with 3 shiney stainless
stents in my carotid arteries.(90 percent blockage on both.) That, and
whopping bills from the Hospital and the surgery team.

We're getting by on a very limited budget, so cash outlay is a major
concern. There were a few hours of panic when the bills arrived.

But, after doing the numbers, we realized we could pay down both the Dr.
and the hospital in very small increments.

Far less than cumulative insurance payments at our respective ages.

Fortunately, Judi did not require surgery, and is slowly getting back on
her feet, walking short distances without a cane or her walker. (She
absolutely refuses to have surgery - remembering both her mother and her
grandmother dying after having been opened up)

Like I said, this is what worked for me.
But our biggest concern was cash flow.

Rick,
Here to remind you getting old ain't easy.
