Back in mid June 1971 I strolled down the Corniche in Beirut [wearing shoes !] I was told that the ground was hot enough to fry an egg. It was really hot.

Enjoy that Jack Hawkins / Geoffrey Horne / William Holden movie !

My measurement was close to the mark. NWS posted a record high of 108F

Permanent shade, over cultivated soil and a bed of plants. I calibrated it
years ago against a glass/mercury lab thermometer.

I'm watching William Holden play with explosives and a knife.

Is the thermometer in direct sunlight or in permanent shade ?

My outdoor thermometer shows 109F, NWS says that is's 106F, and
the previous record is 105F. So, no matter how you look at it, we've
set a new record high for today.

On Sunday the high will be 75F, then 74F on Monday, and 75F on
Tuesday. Just a bit of a roller coaster out here. This upcoming storm
will be moving slowly due to a strong ridge of high pressure stretching
