If in the 1960s, not trams, Chris, but trolleybuses - double deck buses
powered electrically from overhead wires, just like trams, but without fixed
tracks in the roadway. A bit confusing for some "over there", where I
believe what we call a tram is called a trolley.

     Some of those trams were still operating in London in the early 60's,
and I recall riding one or two of them.
