I remember trying them. I remember deciding they didn't do something I wanted, or did something I didn't want. I don't remember why for sure. Do they only apply to the layer under them, so can't be moved? Something about them is not standalone, if I recall correctly.

I don't keep all the layers I create when working. I delete and combine. I have actions that name layers things like "SHi, LCE & Curves", for example, for common combinations.

Storage is cheap.* Just recently moved from a pair of three TB image and 
back-up drives to six TB.

* I realize that may not be true for you or some others, but it's cheaper than doing things a way I don't like for me. RAM, too, 32 GB on the desk, 16 in the portable.
