Hi Moose,

Lovely collection of images,

Thanks!

brings back fond memories of my two weeks there in 2011, but you have far more
and more varied images.

I expect we both covered more ground and had more time/opportunities.

To give a bit of perspective to those who haven't been... on most tours, you're within a rectangle only about 100km x 20km,

Our crow flies east-west distance was ~235 km, from Paro to a rural area east of Trashigang. We were indeed mostly within 20 km of the main road, except when we went south from Trashigang to the Indian border, about 60 crow kms.

All these distances are, of course far greater on the tortuously winding roads. In hours, they were even longer, as huge portions were under construction, often in almost unbelievably bad condition.

Bhutan decided to upgrade the National Highway from one lane to two. On the rare sections of the old highway we traversed, it was seldom actually one lane, more like mostly 1.5 lane, with some wider bits and a few really narrow ones. Pavement varied, but was mostly OK. They have hired 35 contractors, many/most Indian, to each widen a section. The resulting messes are close to impassible. Although we were in separate cars, and could in theory stop as we wanted to visit places, take pix, etc., over some sections we convoyed, so the guides and drivers could help push the cars up slight inclines of deep, heavy mud. Most of the vehicles were four wheel drive, but only the urban versions. Pix to come. :-)

The signs say many parts are to be finished by early 2018, and all by 2018 -
sure doesn't look possible to me.
