I carry my pepper spray as a matter of course, now. Both for
four-legged and two-legged creatures. While it's not one of those
big-honkin cans that can shoot the stuff 50 feet, I figure the same
PPD that I carry in my pants pocket is better than nothing for a bear.
Besides, if you have to use it, chances are you're about toast anyway.
I just want something for last-resort. I really would prefer having
another photographer around who isn't able to run as fast as me.
Most of the time, there are others hiking the same trails (busy around
here) and just about everybody has a big dog to protect/warn against
the bears.
