Woke up last night to a nice movement. No, not bowel movement as that
came later. Something like 7.9 down in the Gulf of Alaska.
Fortunately, it was a slip earthquake, so the tsunami was under a
foot. But the coastal communities, like Kodiak and Seward did evacuate
to higher ground.
The house had a couple of cracks in the drywall that grew a bit. The
water sloshed in the humidifiers. Otherwise, it was just
entertainment. Nothing got knocked over. We saved a quarter with the
"Magic Fingers".
The rule of thumb is that if the shaking lasts longer than 30 seconds,
it's probably a big one. This one lasted for probably a minute and a
half to two minutes. Multiple aftershocks through the night.
The long-term Alaskans are pretty chill about it, but will talk about
the fact that this is just a reminder that Anchorage will get nailed
again with a big one at some point.
