I'd be tempted to put together some insane rig like that too, but I
lock onto inspiration whenever it hits. And it usually hits when I
have no tripods and I'm two miles from the trailhead.

Every time that I go hiking out at the ERNC (Eagle River Nature
Center), I have an expectation of getting pictures at certain
locations and subjects. It's one of those things where "The last time
I was there I got a great shot, so next time will be greater." But it
rarely works out that way. If I'm not as excited as a Jack Russell
Terrier when I see something, then I'm just manufacturing shots.
Yesterday was a good example of this. I had in mind several shots, but
those were positively horrid when I looked through the viewfinder.
Yet, I saw something else that gave me inspiration.

Had I been hauling a macro rig with tripods and such, I wouldn't have
hiked that trail to begin with.
