Thanks for the feedback and the compliments, everyone. It's really helpful, particularly when the experience is intense, to get comments from people who weren't there. Yes, I understand about the salmon. But hydro is one way to get energy without burning buried carbon. There are tradeoffs to everything, nothing is "pure."

I don't know why they didn't build fish ladders at Chief Joseph and Grand Coulee Dams. Perhaps it considered was too big an engineering challenge or too costly. And in 1930-55 hardly anybody considered the environment.

Chris, I did indeed think of the WPA photographs while I was taking these pictures.
