I have read of your close-up lenses and might consider that approach.  Right now, my close-up solution is the Leica-R 60mm/2.8 Macro, which goes down to 1:2 on its own, and 1:1 with a matched extender.  It will magnify, but it puts me about 12 inches from the insects, which they often don't agree with.  Fuji makes about 3 grades of longer lenses, but the consumer grades have mixed reviews, and the professional grade is quite pricey.

So, about once a year I look around, and then usually make do with what I have.

What about your Telyt-R 250/4, perhaps on the shoulder stock?

The way C-U lenses work is that furthest focus is at the C-U lens FL from the
front of the lens.

In your case, likely candidates are a Canon 500D 72mm, with step-down ring, or
Nikon 5T 62mm with step-up ring.

I tested these on my 72 mm filter ring PLeica 100-400 mm @ 400 mm. The Nikon clearly gave better resolution. But that doesn't necessarily mean it would be so with your, very different lens. Not that the Canon was bad, anyway, but I had my choice.

The Canon is available new for $125 and used for around $100. It's 500 mm FL, so furthest focus would be half a meter, just under 20"

The Nikon is discontinued, but readily available used for about $50. Furthest focus
is 667 mm, 26 1/4".

Remember, those closest focus distances are from the front of the primary lens, NOT the sensor in the camera, so REAL working distances.

I use a Pentax 6x7 T132 on the 72mm thread 100-400 and Oly 12-100, for a working distance of 52", but less magnification - and they are few and far between.

The 5T goes on the PLeica 12-60.
