I agree.  This moth shot worked fine at 1/500.

I suppose the necessary SS may depend on the subject speed of wing beats. This shot of a hovering fly (that acts like a bee) catches the wings pretty well @ 1/250. <https://photos.app.goo.gl/mQHge6qWSX3Y31GQ9>
