I have. But fortunately, we're not in extreme deep freeze conditions
yet. Should remain above zero (F) for the trip. But it's 8F and
freezing fog in Prudhoe Bay right now. At this point, it's just
"normal" winter stuff. I'll be sure to keep a spare battery charged at
all times.

I'll be in Deadhorse/Prudhoe Bay for a full day, then it will take
three days to get to Fairbanks. The majority of the time isn't spent
driving, but at our buildings along the way. Looking at the schedule,
we have about 11 hours of time budgeted for driving, with many hours
of buffer. In fact, I'd say that we've got 50% of the time set aside
as buffer. The most deadly thing to have is a deadline. Fortunately,
communications (for us) is very good along the route and we're only a
radio call away for help and our departure/arrival times are closely
monitored. If you speed, you get fired, if you don't show up, they try
calling you and if you don't answer, they send the dogs out after you.
The "safety net" for workers along the pipeline is quite impressive.
Also impressive is that the entire pipeline route is considered part
of the "North Slope" and all rules apply from one end to the other.
Very consistent. No matter who you work for, you go through pretty
much the same training and have the same requirements. Whichever
company has the facility where you are at is just the "host" and they
treat everybody (employees, contractors, other company employees) as
their own. "Corporate Socialism" that works. Survival and safety is
everybody's responsibility.

Forgot if I mentioned it, but an example of safety requirements: When
traveling on the ROW or on the highways, safety glasses (with side
protection) must be worn at all times. This is in case a rock shatters
a window in your vehicle. (standard wrap-around glasses are fine).
