Well, as you rush out to your aircraft, knowing that you will miss the next
meal, you have to be able to pick an orange or an apple from the bowl in the
crewroom :-).
More seriously, my job is teaching young aircrew, mainly pilots, about the
shortcomings of our orientation system; and since it is based largely on visual
input, interpreting the air and ground ahead is critical to appropriate
decision-making. If you are mistaking (or not discerning) colours the job
becomes that much harder.
