What Nathan said applies here (France) too.

Of course there are apps you can use to pay for your bread or parking slot, or
haircut, but I personally don’t like the idea. Credit/debit cards are still the
safest way not to be hacked on a trip IMHO, so long as you take the usual
precautions; never leave your card out of sight, get cash from places where
there’s people moving around and in daylight, etc.

Make sure as Nathan said, that you have a PIN, and probably a chip. The chip
will allow you to pay contactless, which I often do. Who needs a phone then.

OTT : You might want to let your banker know that you’re travelling, the dates,
and where to. She can prevent your card to be considered as fraudulously used
when they suddenly detect a withdrawal from an ATM or a payment kmiles from
your base, and block it. This happened to me once, now I’m shy, and anticipate
with a call prior to flying. They even up the cash limit at my disposal from
ATMs.

My neighbours, read Germany, are still not so enthusiast about cards in daily
life yet, DM nostalgia, but since you don’t buy and use Leicas … ;-)

As to phoning, the dual card system sounds cool. You should be able to find a
card at the airports, or from the tobacconists/newsagents here.

Hope this helps.
