And what factory is "NA?" 

I have at least one pre-1980 lens with a three-character code under the rubber 
focus ring that starts with "S". 

Also, I think they shifted from "XYZ" for October, November, December, to "ABC" 
at some point, probably when they started the four-character codes. I have one 
lens with an "A" in the last position.
