Philippe,

I'm still learning.  Take a look at the Robin image I'm about to post.  The lens is fine.

Agree with Frank,

this is what I had written on another list

Hi Jim,

the Takumar wins hands down in this test.

However, I attribute the softness of the Oly to the much too low shutter speed
used then.

I have very good memories of this lens (mine was the first version) even though
it was massive and heavy, and the AF slow and often disappointing. But the
glass was very good to excellent.

Keep trying, I’m confident you’ll squeeze the maximum out of it :-)

e.g. This one was shot handheld, no IOS nor IBIS, and nice colours.

Perhaps more convincing as to its flare resistance

view it large, and check the lady’s face, scarf and hair ;-)

Also offers sharpness and contrast when needed

Do not throw it yet!!

Hmm... the SWD picture is unsharp and/or shaken, I don't think you can
conclude anything from that picture. Except that the lens is a lemon if you
can't get it any better.

I noticed 1/100 for the SWD version and 1/320 & 1/500 for Takumar versions
though (which I like btw). Could that explain the difference?

I've been using a Pentax Takumar 200mm for a couple of weeks, and
decided that 200mm Autofocus would be handy, so I ordered a used Olympus
50-200 SWD lens, which arrived this morning from KEH. With a new feeder
and my tripod set behind clean window glass, I was watching the birds
checking out the feeder. This Downy Woodpecker was caught with the
Takumar and manual focus.

The 50-200 arrived at my door, so I mounted it in the same spot and,
using Autofocus, caught this group at the breakfast bar.

I have to get a lot more experience with the new lens, but this
comparison did show me that the old Takumar is not too bad in its own
right.
