Oddly, I don't use any, despite the fact that I have vitiligo (no skin
pigmentation) over most of my body. I did use a PAB 15 when I first moved
here, but over the years I found that I didn't need any at all, though I do
keep some around. My primary defense is a wide-brimmed straw hat.

We've had many demonstrations here of frying eggs on concrete and asphalt
surfaces.

That causes me to mention something that people in more moderate climes
aren't aware of. There is a temperature limit beyond which many biological
macromolecules begin to weaken and come apart. That temperature is known to be
around 165F. There are some plants and animals that can survive beyond this,
the result of a virus that performs a lateral transfer into DNA strings. It
was first found around Yellowstone NP, and later found around the subsea
volcanic region off the coast of Oregon.

Out here, if you should pass out and fall down during the summer you could
very likely never get up again, due to the surface temperature of some
pavements exceeding the 165F mark.
