I find it remarkable that Cessna management didn't see the potential
market for the Caravan. But in all fairness, the 4xx series of twins
were the meat and potatoes aircraft in that entire market segment. Who
would have guessed that one turbine was going to be as acceptable (or
preferred) to two piston mills hanging on the wings.
Especially considering that the Caravan is an absolute dog in airspeed.
When the Caravan entered the world as a freight dog aircraft, the
night was owned by Beech 18s, DC3s, and Cessna 4xx.
