Can't speak to Digikam on Mac or Windows, but on its native Linux platform,
it's been a choice I've never regretted. It's updated often, and quite a
number of new features have been added over the course of the years I've
been using it, including things like filtering by geotag, face recognition,
etc. It does not require moving files from the location where you've got
them, and can even handle removable devices.
