Moose, that must be a really out of the way place! All the schoolhouses in 
Indiana were closed by the early 1960s, and most had closed earlier.

Those in your photo are wooden buildings, which is something I have never seen 
in northeast Indiana. All of them here are brick, and most were seemingly built 
from the same plans, with only minor variations.

    We pass three school houses of that sort of vintage regularly. The big 
difference is that all three are still active 
    schoolhouses.
    
    The original Nicasio School building, 1871, is beautiful, but possibly 
misleading, as it's now school offices. The 
    current classrooms are next to it.

    Lincoln Elementary, 1872, is still an active simple school, out in rural 
country.
