Thanks for the interesting links. I was aware of the divergent views (although 
MLA is US-based, and therefore suspect) and that is precisely why I wrote " as 
the bearer of one of those pesky names " - it was a personal view. Indeed, I 
might claim some kind of droit de seigneur ... but you might think that was 
either teasing, or joking!

Anyhow, established spelling traditions seem to be loosening. My reference in 
the matter is the following, and has been for decades for many:

rule and add ’s :
