Talk of Galway and the west of Ireland brings back fond memories. I was introduced to counties Clare, Galway and Mayo during a geological field trip in 1970. I subsequently spent nearly four years (1970-74) in Galway. I'm sure it has changed much since.

Back then Galway was still a relatively lively town because of the university (UCG, now NUI-Galway). Many bars with generally very good Guiness; the Cellar was the main student hangout. However, Galway was a culinary purgatory. The only restaurants were in the hotels (Skeffington Arms and Salthill). It also had a vibrant Motor Club.

I got to enjoy the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, Connemara, west Mayo/Croagh Patrick - all very different scenery -  without tourists, though I didn't realize it at the time. As I remember, there were very few and certainly none to disrupt the setting. Back then the Troubles were raging, which probably put a lot of people off. It was also pre-EU membership, as I remember.

The only recollection of Clifden that I have is the Alcock and Brown memorial.

One of these days, I need to visit to see how much Galway, and Ireland in general, has changed.

As I think about it, I remember the same basic technique worked well with the µ4/3 Oly 9-18 zoom. Shots @ 9 mm didn't work at all well. I've got great panas with that lens done that way. Later, I went to making pana stitch shots with the 12-60 PLeica. This was done @ 24 mm eq. <https://photos.app.goo.gl/1VbJtr4tc3E5WsMr9>

And stitched in Hugin, to put this one in context. <https://photos.app.goo.gl/TNF3EBnSAZTdHXEE6>
Nice shots, I love the clouds.
I'll look this weekend, but I think I have a shot from that exact same
spot taken with the 24/2.8 and OM-2S.

WOW, small world!

We were staying in one place for almost a week, so passed that barn and those sheep in daylight 3-4 times, on our way to various places (and at night, going the other way). The light was never the same as that first day.

This area of Ireland, the Connemara, was once forested, but I was told changes in the soil since mean it can't be
reforested by simply planing new trees.
Connemara is one of my most favorite places. I absolutely love it there. Galway is my chosen European home.

I wouldn't want to live in Galway itself. It may have changed a great deal since you were there. Very crowded, lots of clogged traffic. Lots of tourists, even in mid October. Must be a real zoo in the summer.

One of the villages near there would be nicer.

Wandering Connemara and the other side of the river, didn't seem touristy - until we went to the the Cliffs of Mohr - oppressively crowded. The part of The Burren we visited had an awful lot of cars parked on the road, but was almost empty when we were walking.

Have you been to the village of Cong? Off season, at least, a lovely little place, with good ruins and a beautiful park/arboretum across the little river bridge.

More photos not yet processed, sigh . . .
