I'm not sure I can be of much assistance with the MiniDSP. I'm a DBX
DriveRack kind of guy. But I work with large-scale sound systems.
However, for the cost of the MiniDSP, I would much rather work with a
regular professional tool. MUCH MUCH MUCH rather deal with the DBX
over anything else.

That said, there is another alternative product that is actually
remarkably good. I typically NEVER EVER recommend this brand, but they
make two things of their own design (key phrase there, as they are
well known as rip-off artists) that I like.

Behringer ULTRA-DRIVE PRO DCX2496

Either work fine, but I'd probably lean towards the DriveRack line,
because you can better manage the positioning and EQ of your stereo
speakers, as well as the crossover and physical positioning of the
subs. The advantage of having the two subs is if you are really
creative you can position them and phase align them to actually make
the subs "directional" to clean up the room or avoid mechanical
activation of the structure. You can also do a dual split crossover on
the subs so they cover different frequencies or have different
amplifier settings (including compression or expansion) to better
provide solid low end at low volume settings without triggering a 4.3
earthquake when things get cranked up.

DBX isn't the only game in town, but it is the most common and it's
extremely reliable.

The products aimed for the home theater market usually are junk. They
have a few wiz-bang features that are really nice, but lack the brutal
functionality and configurability of a real pro product designed to be
used with ANY speaker/amplifier system in any environment. And best of
all, the pro product will boot up to the exact same setting time after
time without random, unexplained, resets.
