I looked again at what you are referencing. There is the "appearance"
of that characteristic, however if you look more closely at the
right-hand side, you'll see that the more distant mountain doesn't
slump down. On the left side, the equivalent distant mountains are
obscured by the clouds. This image was actually heavily corrected to
fix the slumps and bulges. When I edited the photograph, it took quite
a bit of work to counteract that slump appearance because of how the
light and dark plays on the closer mountains and draws the eyes
downward away from the true horizon.

In the "Alaska Wide" photograph, you can see how that first ridgeline
straight ahead is not altitude level. That is what we are seeing in
the other photograph over on the right side.

What's really misleading about this photograph is the steepness of the
trail. It looks relatively flat, but in reality, it's still pretty
steep. The altitude difference between the two photographs is probably
around 300-400 feet. I'll have to check the GPS tracks.

I find it slightly interesting that I present an image with minimal
processing in order to reflect the world more true to what it was than
my preferred interpretation. And I get all sorts of recommendations on
how to edit it.
