This (that Topaz will now focus efforts on Photo AI rather than the

Gigapixel etc.

So I opted for the attractive Black Friday pricing on PhotoAI, and
downloaded many GBs of installer. On two PCs. To no avail - read the small
print, PhotoAI requires a CPU able to execute AVX commands (whatever they
are) as well as running the appropriate OS, with a capable GPU, and having
square miles of disk space. Rules out both PCs I have available.

Don't waste your time as I did (srefund seems to be on offer, so I didn't
waste my money, at least).

Unlike past sharpening methods, all the new stuff is using some form
of neural filter technique. AVX, "Advanced Vector eXtensions", and a
GPU are critical for the math behind neural nets. It is just not possible
to do well without that hardware, and writing code to mimic them on a
basic CPU would not make sense, as the processing would turn one
minute into an hour (my exaggerating...).

May not be much of an exaggeration. On my portable, with Intel GPU of sorts with AVX built-into the CPU chip, the AI stuff is slow to the point of uselessness. Full tilt GPU with lots of its own memory needed.
