Dave,
I haven't used the Beattie screens, but Olympus makes a 2-series of screens
that also might be beneficial to you.
Brightness of both the Beattie and OM 2-xx (either 4 or 13) are higher than
the standard 1-x series.

Of the standard screens, the 1-13 or the 1-14 might also be helpful, less
expensive, and easier to find.
The 1-13 has the combination of a horizontal spilt screen (like your 1-3)
and a microprism surrounding the spilt image(like the original 1-1).
The 1-14 (hard to find) is similar, but the split image is on a 45 degree
angle.
OTF will not be affected by any of the screens you use on an OM-4.

I have now resolved my problem of getting a flash for the OM-4. I picked
up a Sunpack 444D at a local dealer and an OM module. It seems to work
well. As a matter of fact it worked extremely well utilizing a Lumiquest
Mini-Soft Box. Thanks for the replies I received.
But,now I have another question. Because of my aging eyesight I need
some sort of focusing aid. Does anyone have any experience using the
Beattie Intensascreen w\45 degree split. My camera currently uses an OLY
horizontal split, but I find it difficult to use. My dealer thinks that
this might throw off the meter, but I have trouble accepting his premise
because the camera utilizes OTF metering (or so I think).
Any help appreciated.
Dave
