As I understand it, zinc-air batteries begin to discharge as soon as the
seal is broken and while they are exposed to the air, so some effort should
be made to keep the battery chamber air tight and close-fitting. I wonder if
covering the battery with Vaseline would help. Well, it works for car
battery terminals.
