Sure would. Or just buy a telescope, and skip the complication of mounting an
adapter on a lens.

Easier and simpler are not the point. Creativity and adventure are. (I
strongly suspect that Lee is well aware of such "telescope adapter" gadgets.)
The flexibility gained by being able to change eyepieces (especially for
someone who already has telescopic eyepieces) would be well worth it to some.

Optical quality is a factor, too. I've tried three different "telescopic
adapters" (Vivitar, Kenko, and Spiratone), and I even still own one (the
Vivitar), and the overall optical quality is nothing to write home about. The
short eye relief that is apparently typical of this type of equipment is not
helpful, nor is the narrow field of view.

And, for some of us, the fabrication - nay, the *Creation* - of an optical
instrument provides satisfaction that can't be matched by a "store boughten"
item. For some of us, every view through equipment that involved more than
just financial input is a view that's just a little special. But, the
operative words are "for some of us".

It's sort of like astrophotography, a related topic: Why go to all the
trouble - Why not just buy a book and look at the pictures?

Kudos to Lee for sharing the results of his efforts.

Fred
