Frank,
Like Paul states, it's real easy to remove the screen. There was a discussion
here not too long ago about
the best methods to clean the screens.
Care is certainly the first step, the screens are somewhat brittle.
Gently washing with very mild detergent might be a good method, although some
in this list advise against it.
Since you don't like the screen anyway, you might try what seems best and then
you'll have had a good practice.
I have washed screens many times with mild detergent and then rinsed in
distilled water. Always seemed to work
OK for me. (At the time, I sold OM's and had a ready supply of screens so I
didn't worry about it. They always
came out OK treating them like that.
One other thing, John Hermanson repairs OM's, he always dusts off the screens
with a boose feather. You'll have to ask
John about that. In my opinion, goose feathers would dust them off quite well
too.

I don't think it's a good idea to use canned air to try and drive dust out of
the prism area when the screen is removed.
In my opinion, there is possibility of damage to the meter needle in an OM-1.
I'm sure John can give a definitive statement on that.

My OM-1 MD came with a focusing screen I'm not too crazy about (the one
with the grid lines), and it also happens to be quite dirty, and compressed
air is not having any effect. How would I go about taking the screen out to
clean/replace it? A special tool of some sort? Should I cough up the dough
to have it done professionally? Thanks.
