No it isn't.  The 357 has a higher current capacity, which the OM's seem 
to find beneficial in situation where mirror lock up might ensue if the 
current is inadequate.  The SR44, on the other hand, tends to have a 
higher overall capacity so it might last marginally longer - unless you 
need high current towards the end of it's life and you get MLU and throw 
the batteries away in disgust ;-)

You are right in that either will do and is better than alkalines or 
lithiums.
