As the List's resident botanist, I reckon I should step in and pipe up.
Kudzu Vine (Pueraria lobata) is a native of Japan. Contrary to popular
belief, it was originally introduced for its edible starchy root and for
its fiber. The starch is reportedly commonly eaten by Japanese, although
I'll defer to our resident Japanese list subscribers on whether they
have ever had it.
