Hi,
I find Olympus Om4Ti spot meter the best tool
from this camera. After reading a lot of Zone System, I
find useless shadow and highlight butons. Let me explain!
When you´re going to take one photo, you should examine
at first its contrast, searching for high and shadow zones.
You could use your spot to select them and see how many
stops are between them. Now select your target with
your spot meter and use your compensation dial to locate
this zone into IV, V, VI or whatever zone you want! Knowing
where is your darkest zone and where you´ve located your
target you can do your previsualization into your brain
like if you´ve already taken your photo. Once you´ve made
this, you can see if your highlights are going to be too
overexposed in some critical areas. Now use AE-lock and
be prepared to take several shots of your subject without
thinking about exposure changes over the session. Remember,
use spot in combination with exposure compensation dial.
Spot meters always selects a 18 0ray, and your compensation
dial locates this zone into another one.
When do I use multispot metering? When I started with
my camera... It´s useless using it to select many zones,
because this doesn´t let you create. I only find it very
useful when it´s hard difficult to give more emphasis to
one subject (2:1, 3:1, etc) But if you know something about
zone system, you´ll also find this tool useless.
Why do I find so atractive E-10? 1potmeter, +- 3
exposure compensation, AE-lock, and the best tool for
me, image histogram. With this tool, you´ll be able to
see if you are loosing details in shadows and highlights
and in what quantity. It´s no so handy like our lady in black!
but it´s a new begining, isn´t it?
