Chris,
I'm you and yours had a good time! Even though the light show wasn't
that spectacular its sometimes just nice to get away from the city.
The lounge chairs you learned about the hard way. Sorry I didn't mention
those in my original post.
Another tip: 
Get some red cellophane to cover your flashlight lens then you can use
it without affecting your night vision too much. Most stores that sell
party goods or gift wrapping should carry it.
