Winsor,

Here's a link to some P&S info and recommendations by John McCormack (a frequent
contributor on rec.photo.equipment.35mm).

http://www.geocities.com/RainForest/Vines/9273/pscam.html

To cut to the chase, his bottom line fixed focal length P&S recommendations
are:

"My favorite autofocus P&S cameras are fixed focal length cameras - in order
of preference: the Ricoh GR1and Leica Minilux (a tie), Contax T3, Yashica T4
(now discontinued) and Olympus Stylus Epic (best bargain around). "

I don't know that the built-in flash on any P&S is anything to write home about.
I've also read good things elsewhere about the Konica autofocus Hexar (not
to be confused with the Konica Hexar rangefinder). With a 35mm f2, I think
it has the fastest lens on a P&S, but I'm not sure how small it is.

Mike W.
